Cycle training and mentoring taking young people (aged 14+) cycling on Oxfordshire country roads and helping them to develop their potential for racing.

Rides are typically 2 to 3 hours on Sundays at 10am.  Other rides are posted on our Facebook group.

OYC is a cross-club concept based in Oxford and is FREE.

Riders don't have to be part of a club.

Oxfordshire Youth Cycling (OYC) has safeguarding policies and is manged by experienced cyclists and racers to help build youth rider skills and stamina, as well as confidence.

We are not a club (nor specifically coaching) but a way for young riders to gain cycling experience, get fit for racing, develop as young adults and be mentored in being responsible and self-disciplined, whilst riding (usually quite fast) with others of their own age.  They may then go on to race with a team or just continue with a love of cycling.  It is also possible to race as OYC.

Achievements & how we ride

We ride quite fast, and our style is ‘training without training’, i.e. by having fun and just riding.  In this way we have helped youth riders to race for local clubs and at national level:

  • 3 British Schools National Champions

  • National CX U14 girls 1st (we helped train her!:-)

  • National 10 mile TT U14 boys 1st

  • National 25 mile TT U14 boys 1st and 2nd

  • National 10 mile TT U16 girls top 10

  • National Hill Climb U16 boys 1st

  • National 10 mile TT U16 boys 1st

  • National Hill Climb Juniors 1st

  • And may regional wins and good places

We have developed an amazing group of well rounded, responsible young people.

It’s not always about winning though!

Diversity

We train both girls and boys.

The racial make up of our riders has included Indian origin, Indonesian-British, Pakistani-French, Mexican-Dutch, Norwegian-British, Chinese-British and just British, as well as people with a variety of special-needs, and people from Yorkshire:-)

Where you come from and your social status is irrelevant.

Ability

Riders do need to have a good level of fitness and skills already.  We are not the right place to learn to cycle.

It is important that all riders feel safe riding with each other and you won't get left behind.

We do have newbie rides and can have different speed groups.

Don't have a racing bike?  You can borrow one.
We have a bike if you don't have a racing bike.  Contact us in advance to borrow one.
